Filmmaking is a lot like cooking. You’ve got to have a great team, the proper ingredients, a compelling location and be able to take some heat. The greatest meals – and the greatest films – come from a delicate balance of artistic demands and real-world obstacles. I could go on and on with cooking/filmmaking analogies (uh… Be open to happy accidents?) but will spare you further plays on words. A film about cooking? Sounds delicious!
A couple months ago, Fog City Pictures was approached with a great opportunity to be involved in a smart, character-driven indie feature film shot in and around San Francisco. Titled TRATTORIA, the movie takes on the famed San Francisco dining scene and shoots in an amazing, temporarily vacant restaurant in the Financial District among other places. San Francisco’s INSIDE SCOOP was on the scene.
About the Movie
Inspired by real chefs and the writers’ real-life experiences in the family restaurant business, Trattoria is a drama/comedy set in the exciting San Francisco restaurant scene about a chef and his son that reconnect and heal their past through cooking.

The production scored esteemed Director of Photography Frazer Bradshaw whose recent film EVERYTHING STRANGE AND NEW has been doing very well on the major festival circuit. Of course, as standard for Fog City Productions films, the bulk of the crew was made up of FilmSchoolSF Students. From 2nd AC to Grip and everything in between, we had our students and alumni on-set in the middle of the action from start to finish. We caught up with soon-to-be-legendary filmmaker Richard Falzone to get his take on the experience.
Working on “Trattoria ” was like going to Disneyland on steroids. A grand vision, fun characters and you really must be this tall to get on this ride. FilmSchoolSF 1-Year Filmmaking student, Richard Falzone.
